We are two brothers, Wilhelmus and CJ van der Schyff, who have the privilege of managing this fourth-generation family farm. Wilhelmus and Desireé are blessed with two sons, Wilhelmus jr. and Anton, and a lovely daughter, Milané. CJ and Elrien are blessed with three healthy happy daughters, Mikali, Myah and Elizabelle. Family takes centre stage in all decisions and farming practises.
Although our predecessors mainly farmed with sheep, we converted the farm to cattle in order to farm productively, profitably, and in harmony with our environment. At Rietfontein, 60 km north of Bloemfontein, we operate a cattle farm that consists of SCHYFF Beefmaster Stud and SCHYFF Feedlot under the name SCHYFF Beef PTY.
Here, each brother takes responsibility for managing his branch, but decisions and planning are coordinated so that they productively and effectively align. Family and good relationships are the core of this enterprise. Wilhelmus manages the stud and field cattle, while CJ handles the feedlot, feed mixtures, and logistics.
Our approach is to have positive and sustainable agricultural practices that benefit our environment and the people who work here.
Schyff Beefmasters’ first female animals were registered in 2008, and in 2010, CJ began feeding the first calves in Schyff Feedlot. Since then, many new chapters have followed, and we are excited about what the future holds for us.
Godlieb Wilhelmus van der Schyff, born 16 November 1883 married to Minnie Johanna Georgina, born 30 July 1888. Nine children were born, one being Wilhelmus van der Schyff born 30 June 1910, who farmed the farm in the second generation.
Godlieb Wilhelmus van der Schyff born 30 June 1910 married to Hendrina Petronella Griessel born 19 September 1922. Two children were born, Maria Johanna van der Schyff (Marietjie) 30 Mei 1951 and Wilhelmus van der Schyff (Willie) 23 Februarie 1955
Wilhelmus van der Schyff born 23 February 1955 married to JJJ de Villiers (Ina), born 2 March 1956. They had three children. Marie born 5 February 1983; Wilhelmus born 8 January 1985 and Cornelis Johannes du Preez (CJ) born 9 November 1988.
Wilhelmus and CJ van der Schyff are currently managing the family enterprise, SCHYFF BEEF PTY. A privilege to write the new chapter as two brothers and taking pride in our predecessors.
